Hospital supplement plans
Cash in hand when a hospital stay hits your budget.
Even with good health insurance, a hospital stay can mean thousands in deductibles and copays. Supplemental plans pay you directly, and you decide how to use the money.
Plan types
What each one pays for
Hospital indemnity
Pays a set amount per day, or per admission, when you're hospitalized. Popular with Medicare Advantage members who have daily inpatient copays.
Critical illness
A lump sum if you're diagnosed with a covered condition such as heart attack, stroke or cancer.
Accident
Pays for emergency room visits, fractures and injuries. Useful for active families, keiki in sports, and weekends at the beach or on the trail.
Cancer
Benefits for diagnosis, treatment, travel and lodging, including trips to the mainland for specialized care.
Example
How it fills the gap
Say your Medicare Advantage plan has a daily copay for the first several days of a hospital stay. A hospital indemnity plan that pays a daily benefit for those same days can cover most or all of it, and the cash comes to you, not the hospital.
The same idea works for a high-deductible health plan under 65. We match the benefit to your actual out-of-pocket exposure, so you're not paying for more than you need.
Please note: These plans supplement health insurance and are not a replacement for it. Benefits, limitations and exclusions vary by plan.
